Serve

In Our Community

We host blood drives for the American Red Cross, prepare food baskets at Christmas time through Neighborhood House. We provide volunteer time and financial assistance to, South Oakland Shelter, Neighborhood House and Haven. We have also helped build home’s in Oakland County through Habitat for Humanity.

Raising Rochester

In 2016, Abiding Presence partnered with the Raising Rochester program to help provide fresh produce for neighbors in the Rochester area. With four raised beds, the produce that is to be grown is donated to the Rochester Area Neighborhood House Food Pantry and sold at the Rochester Farmer Market.

Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County

Ketelsen Annual Fundraising Dinner
The annual Kurt Ketelsen Memorial Birthday Build is held every February. Sponsored by the Ketelsen, Newer and Burlingame families to honor Kurt (1962-2005), and with additional support from Thrivent Financial and Habitat of Oakland County this festive fund raiser has provided significant financial donations to Habitat. . This family friendly Fiesta is an evening of fun, food, games and helping our neighbors in need. It is a fitting and fulfilling memorial to a man who was a builder and who actively cared about those needing shelter.

Bi-Annual Guatemala/Cost Rica Builds

Approximately every two years a group of members have traveled to Guatemala and Costa Rica to help build homes for Habitat for Humanity.

In the Summer of 2016, a group will be traveling to El Salvador.

Abiding Presence Weekly Children’s Noisy Offering

During the Children’s Time in the middle of our Worship Service, the preschool and elementary age kids collect loose change in buckets from members of the congregation. The money is given to a charity of the children’s choosing.

American Red Cross

Equal Exchange Coffee Sales in the Church Narthex

Abiding Presence supports the work of farmers in other countries through the Equal Exchange program. A table is set-up in our Narthex with a free will offering. Everyone visiting our building has the opportunity to help this cause.

The products we are currently offering are Coffee (12oz), Organic Fruit & Nut bars, Organic Chai Black Tea (20 tea bags), Hot Cocoa (12oz).

The key pillars of Equal Exchange’s mission are:

  • Fair Trade with small-scale farmers.
  • Support for sustainable farming.
  • To operate as a democratically governed worker cooperative.
  • Encourage consumers to think about, and care about, small-scale farmers around the world.

This Week's Events...

April 8, 2020
  • Camino on Zoom

    April 8, 2020  10:00 am - 11:00 am

Join us for Camino on Zoom Wednesdays at 10 am and 7 pm, starting, April 1st. Camino is the word for 'way' in Spanish. Early Christians were called people of The Way (of Jesus Christ). 'Camino' often refers to the Camino de Santiago or the Way of St. James, a pilgrimage route in Spain that concludes in the city of Santiago de Compostela. Camino also refers to variations on pilgrimages of the Way of St. James, and in the Christian tradition refers to a spiritual journey of uncertain endings.

As a world community we have not faced a pandemic in over a century. As those who are sheltering at home, this is an unfamiliar way for us to live. Being isolated at home, and advised to keep a distance of six feet between us and others, this time is a new journey for each of us and an opportunity to ask ourselves how will we be changed by this experience.

To give us a chance to check in with each other and be mindful of this new time as an opportunity to grow in faith, we are offering a time for us to gather. We will check in, share our joys and struggles of sheltering in place, and pray together.

Join Camino on Wednesdays at 10 am or 7 pm.
