Help a Local Child By Being a Mentor!

There is a fantastic opportunity to help local children called Mentors Plus.   Created in 1973, Oakland County Youth Assistance's Mentors Plus program matches caring adults with young people who need a positive, adult figure in their lives.

Volunteers can choose to work with an at-risk youngster, or they may want to become involved in delinquency prevention or intervention.  Mentoring is fun, creates new friendships, and allows volunteers to share their lives with a child or young adult who needs their attention and support. This program has proven results. By contributing a few hours each month, mentors can help guide a young person with minor court involvement back onto the right track, or stabilize someone who is suffering from some family difficulty over which they have no control.

Best of all, you can pick the time to meet that works best with your schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends, you choose!

To volunteer, please call Oakland County Youth Assistance Mentors Plus office at 248-858-0099 or contact Casandra Goulding by e-mail at
gouldingc@oakgov.com.  For more details on this program, please contact Joanna VanRaaphorst who has been a mentor for the past 1.5 years at joanna.vanraaphorst@gmail.com .

Currently about 30-40 local children have been identified as someone who would benefit greatly by having a mentor.  Imagine making a tremendous difference in the life of a child!
