AP Organist Retires

By on August 1, 2017

Carolyn Smith, who has served Abiding Presence as organist for twenty years, is retiring from her position. Her last Sunday is July 30th. Carolyn has ably led our worship as liturgy and hymn accompanist, as Adult Choir accompanist, and as conductor of the Bell Choir. In the last two years she has also worked with the Children’s Choir on both singing and playing bells. Carolyn supported various formats for worship, among them the contemporary service and mid-week Lenten worship. She has been in a key role with the annual Lessons & Carols presented by the Adult Choir prior to Christmas. We are thankful for Carolyn’s service in her official capacity as church organist.

Carolyn has also been integral to much that happens behind the scenes in preparation for worship. For many years Carolyn scheduled altar care volunteers, kept track of our wine supply, helped to keep the paraments and banners in good condition, and ironed the funeral pall (no small feat!) We are grateful for her giving of her time to make sure worship ran smoothly.

After worship this coming Sunday we will honor Carolyn at coffee hour. Please stay for a cup of coffee and piece of cake and wish Carolyn well on her retirement. A gift from the congregation will also be presented at that time.

Thank you, Carolyn, for all you have done for Abiding Presence as we gathered for worship to give praise to God!
