The Caring for Others Ministry at Abiding Presence is once again co-hosting with St. Philip’s Episcopal in Rochester a homeless shelter, South Oakland Shelter (SOS).  The week of April 26-May 2nd will bring about 30 homeless clients to spend the night at St. Philip’s.  Abiding Presence has committed to providing the food, kitchen help, transportation help, and overnight hosts for Wednesday, April 29 and Thursday, April 30.  Opportunities the other five nights are available also, especially in transportation.

There are 11 volunteer opportunities each evening to help in the kitchen (cook the dinner, pack tomorrow’s lunch, clean up, etc), one person is needed to wash kitchen towels at your home, at least five drivers for each morning and evening to shuttle the clients between Rochester and Royal Oak/Southfield area, and three overnight hosts.

Participating in this outreach is a $800 commitment from our congregation.  There are sign up sheets in narthex and there are index cards asking for specific food donations. Food donations are due back to Abiding Presence byApril 19.  If you have any questions, contact Gary Berwick via email only;  [email protected]
